About Angela (she/her)

My education and license:

I attended Butler University and graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling from Ball State University in 2008. I have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Indiana since 2010.

My experience:

After finishing my education, I got my start working at a community mental health center, and then worked for over five years at a drug and alcohol treatment center in Indianapolis. Since 2016, I have worked exclusively in a private practice setting, and I launched my own solo private practice, ACH Counseling LLC, in 2021. Working in both the mental health and addictions settings helped me gain well-rounded experience with a wide range of clients and concerns.

My additional certification:

In 2015, I was trained in a technique called Eye-Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy developed for the treatment of trauma. Study after study has demonstrated the effectiveness of EMDR in helping reduce the distressing impact of a trauma on a person’s life. After it was found to be highly effective with trauma, additional EMDR protocols were developed for concerns like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and addiction, with great success. After completing the additional training, education, and consultation, the EMDR International Association granted me certification in EMDR in 2018.

My clients:

While I primarily work with adults eighteen and over, I do occasionally see older teenagers on a case-by-case basis. I enjoy working with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty adjusting to life changes, difficulty coping with past traumas, addiction issues, and more. Sometimes, I provide EMDR to a client as a supplement to their therapy work with their primary therapist. This allows the client to focus in on one specific concern using EMDR (such as a trauma or an eating disorder) while maintaining the overall support of their primary therapist to address other issues like day-to-day stressors or managing daily anxieties. I use a range of therapeutic techniques based on what would work best for each client, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, relapse prevention, mindfulness, EMDR, and more. An approach that is LGBTQ+ affirmative is a cornerstone of my personal and professional values.

As for me personally, I’m an Indiana native and enjoy reading, Cricut crafts, pizza, Butler basketball, The Beatles, and Disney World. My husband and I have two young children and two cats.
